I met Eva Hesse's sister this summer. She wanted to buy a bottle of water but her husband had the cash. I said "I'll get it for you & you can pay me back". That was the opening for a great conversation. I asked if she was an artist and she said her sister was a famous artist but she died young. I guessed Eva Hesse, who I very much admire. There's a doc coming out in the film festival circuit soon: http://www.evahessedoc.com/
My collage process starts by looking through magazines and books, and trying not to get too distracted by reading them. In this case I saw an image of an Eva Hesse painting, I totally fell in love with and used it as the inspiration for this piece. I used vintage collage papers, acrylic paint, marker and colored pencil on canvas board.
